The Syrian state television al-Ikhbariyya broadcasted in Kurdish for the first time. The al-Ikhbariyya channel presenter reported in Kurdish about the meeting of the "Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS)" delegation with President Ahmed Shara at the People's Palace in Damascus.
FIRST TIME BROADCAST IN KURDISH
ENKS member Nemat Davut also made evaluations regarding the meeting with Shara. Davut stated that the meeting with Shara went positively and expressed his satisfaction with the fact that Kurdish was broadcasted for the first time on the country's official television.
Regarding the meeting, Davut said, "Today is a historic day for Syria and the Kurdish people. As Kurds, we believe that we are a part of Syria and have been partners throughout history, and we will continue to be partners in the future."
Davut used the expression, "Our presence in Damascus and our meeting with the government is our national duty."
WHAT HAPPENED?
In the decree signed by Shara on January 16, it was stated that "Syrian Kurdish citizens are considered a fundamental and essential part of the Syrian people."
The decree announced that "citizenship will be granted to Kurdish-origin individuals who are unregistered in Hasakeh province and reside in Syrian territory," while various rights, including in education and culture, were recognized.
