An investigation had been initiated! The first statement from Özgür Özel.

This morning, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who was arrested at Marmara Prison and replaced by a trustee. After the visit, he criticized Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek in his statements.

Following Özel's statements, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation; the reason for the investigation initiated by the Prosecutor's Office was stated as "insulting a public official" and "targeting."

FIRST REACTION FROM CHP

The first reaction to the investigation came from CHP Istanbul Deputy Gökan Zeybek. In a statement on his social media account, Zeybek said, "The investigation initiated against our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel is a significant proof and the most recent example of the abuse of the judiciary by the current government. Criticizing the independence of the judiciary, the influence of politics over the courts, and the disregard for legal norms, and suggesting that these are major problems, when did it become an example of the crime of 'insult'?"

Zeybek also stated, "Just like the Esenyurt democracy coup, which you cannot legally explain in any way, this investigation against our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel is also indicative of the validity of Mr. Chairman's statements. These dirty attempts are null and void for us. These steps against the Chairman of the 101-year-old giant Republican People's Party, Mr. Özgür Özel, are not anyone's place. We stand by our Chairman."
