The people in Iran went to the polls for the 14th term presidential elections. Voting took place in more than 59,000 polling stations across the country. The voting process for the election, which started at 08:00 in the morning, ended at 24:00 local time. After the closing of the ballot boxes in Iran, the vote counting process began. 4 CANDIDATES COMPETINGIn the elections, reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian, conservative candidates Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, former Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Saeed Jalili, and former Minister of Interior Mostafa Pourmohammadi are competing. Conservative candidates Ali Reza Zakani, the Mayor of Tehran, and Amir Hossein Ghazizadeh Hashemi withdrew from the race "to ensure unity in the conservative camp" just hours before the election. 50%+1 CONDITION FOR THE FIRST ROUNDIn order for the candidates to be elected in the first round, they need to receive 50%+1 of the votes. If no candidate exceeds 50%+1 in the first round, the top 2 candidates with the most votes will proceed to the second round, which will be held on July 5th, and the winner of the second round will become the 9th President of the country. The first data on the election results are expected to be announced at midnight, and the final results are expected to be announced this afternoon. THE FIRST RESULTS HAVE ARRIVEDAccording to the Ministry of Interior Election Center in Iran, a total of 12,058,843 votes have been counted so far. Looking at the distribution of votes, Pezeshkian is leading the race with 5,354,269 votes, followed by Jalili with 4,875,269 votes. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf is in third place with 1,620,628 votes, and Mostafa Pourmohammadi is in fourth place with 95,172 votes. POLL RESULTSIn a public opinion poll in Iran, reformist candidate Pezeshkian was in the lead with 33.1%, followed by Jalili with 28.8%, and conservative candidate Ghalibaf with 19.1%. THE LEADER DIED IN A HELICOPTER CRASHAfter the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash on May 19th, the 14th term presidential elections were scheduled to be held on June 28th by the Guardian Council.
