The DEM Party made statements following the decision of the terrorist organization PKK to completely withdraw from Turkey. In a statement made by Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, it was stated, "This step is the most determined will on the path to peace. It is the strongest call for a new era. This is not just a withdrawal; it is a step taken towards the future. It is a step to win the future."
On July 11, the terrorist organization PKK, which burned weapons in Northern Iraq, held a press conference attended by 25 terrorists, announcing that it has completely withdrawn from Turkey.
This historic move by the PKK has resonated widely in the public, and the first statement regarding the matter came from the DEM Party. In a statement made by DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan, it was stated, "This step is the most determined will on the path to peace. It is the strongest call for a new era. This is not just a withdrawal; it is a step taken towards the future. It is a step to win the future."
"EVERY INCH OF TURKEY HAS PAID A HEAVY PRICE"
The statement made by the co-chairs of the DEM Party included the following expressions: "Today, we are at a moment that could change the course of Turkish history. This moment has come with the efforts of everyone who stands for democracy and life. We have arrived at a critical juncture of a long journey with great hopes. Every inch of Turkey has paid a heavy price. I commemorate all our comrades lost on the path to peace, especially Sırrı Süreyya Önder, whom we lost recently. I salute all our friends in prison with respect.
Yesterday, a historic development took place. Of course, we did not come to this threshold suddenly. Let's look back at the months we left behind. On October 1, 2024, Mr. Bahçeli extended a hand that broke the mold, and then came February 27. The voice from İmralı changed the course of the conflict. Öcalan's call was not just a call; it was a turning point. By convening the PKK's congress and making a decision to dissolve, weapons were burned; the spirit of fire and iron mixed with the soil. It was said that politics should speak now.
"THIS DECISION IS THE MOST DETERMINED WILL ON THE PATH TO PEACE"
On October 1, 2025, Mr. Erdoğan shaking hands with us renewed trust in the will for peace. Finally, we witnessed one of the most critical and meaningful steps yesterday. The PKK, which made the decision to dissolve, declared that it was in favor of peace by announcing that it was withdrawing its armed elements. This step is a step that offers the possibility of a solution. This decision to withdraw is the most determined will on the path to peace. It is the strongest call for a new era.
Yesterday's decision is the strongest evidence of this will. This is not just a withdrawal; it is a step taken towards the future. It is a step to win the future. At this point, the first phase of the process has been closed. With the completion of the withdrawal, a new page has been opened. Now is the time to write our own story without waiting for the solution from elsewhere. It is time to transition to the second phase, which is a much more critical and vital stage. That is, it is time to transition to social peace with legal and political steps. This phase is as meaningful as it is challenging; it is the peace of all of Turkey.
"FREE WORKING CONDITIONS MUST BE ESTABLISHED"
The process should develop with laws and rights. The language of politics and democracy should be strengthened. Justice should be the foundation of the future. Öcalan has presented a vision of great determination. He has always developed a stance in favor of a political solution. Öcalan's foresight and insistence are decisive. In this regard, ways should be opened for him to take more initiative, and opportunities should be provided. There should be a dialogue exchange. Free working conditions must be established.
The Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) should act in accordance with its responsibility during this historic process. Decisions to be made under the roof of the Assembly will be read in history books. The Assembly should facilitate this process. These will be the building blocks of peace. These are necessary for the democratization of Turkey. If Turkey democratizes, everyone wins; we all win. In this process, not just one side, but the state, the judiciary, and everyone is responsible.
"THERE ARE NO LOSERS IN THIS PROCESS"
Everyone should act in accordance with the will for peace. The negative past should be left behind. The media also has historical responsibilities for the healthy progress of developments that will take place yesterday and bring hope to 86 million people. The media should be a bridge to peace and should prefer an inclusive broadcasting approach instead of divisive publications. There are no losers in this process."
