The leader of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP), Devlet Bahçeli, recently made a statement regarding Syria in which he referred to the terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan as the "founding leader of the PKK." The first response from the MHP regarding this statement came from Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir. Özdemir said, "This is a technical reality. The Chairman expressed this reality. Some things need to be overcome by Turkey."
After the message of "Terror-free Turkey" from MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, a call from terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan to the organization to "lay down arms" had come.
STRIKING WORDS FROM BAHÇELİ
While Öcalan's call initiates a new process, Bahçeli had made a striking statement recently. Bahçeli said, "It is beneficial for the DEM Party to clarify its stance and position in the face of these developments. Will they discuss the February 27 İmralı call in their contacts with the CHP or other parties, or will they listen to the outdated and fossilized clichés of parties that are in search of steps that destroy ethnic and sectarian sensitivities and become partners in that?"
Will they fulfill the requirements of the "Call for Peace and Democratic Society" prepared by the founding leader of the PKK, or will they act as intermediaries for the rotten political mentalities that project Turkey's internal chaos and turmoil under the pretext of Syria? It is an urgent and vital need for the DEM Party to crystallize its decision in this context," he said.
FIRST COMMENT FROM MHP
The expression "founding leader of the PKK" used by Bahçeli ignited a new debate, and the first statement from MHP regarding the issue has come.
ÖZDEMİR: THIS IS A TECHNICAL REALITY
MHP Deputy Chairman İsmail Özdemir, speaking to journalist Nagehan Alcı, stood behind Bahçeli's statement, saying, "Turkey needs to overcome some things."
Özdemir's statement is as follows: "Whether we accept it or not, this is a technical reality. The Chairman expressed this reality. Turkey needs to overcome some things. We should think more broadly and positively. As a country, we have many goals. You will see beautiful developments between Europe and Turkey in the coming days."
