Critical contacts aimed at ending the war between the USA and Iran have gained momentum. According to a report by Axios, based on four sources from the USA, Israel, and the region, the parties are discussing a 45-day ceasefire plan that could pave the way for a lasting peace.
TWO-STAGE PLAN ON THE AGENDA
According to sources, mediators are working on a two-stage framework. The first stage aims to establish a 45-day temporary ceasefire and conduct negotiations for a permanent solution during this period.
The second stage plans to reach a comprehensive agreement that will ensure the complete end of the war.
CRITICAL ISSUES LEFT TO THE FINAL STAGE
It was stated that critical issues such as the complete reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's high-level enriched uranium program are expected to be addressed only at the final agreement stage.
DIPLOMATIC TRAFFIC IS INTENSE
It was expressed that the negotiations are being conducted with the mediation of Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey. Additionally, it was reported that direct communication was established between the U.S. Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi through messaging.
IRAN HAS NOT YET ACCEPTED
A U.S. official stated that the Trump administration has offered multiple proposals to Iran in recent days, but the Tehran administration has not yet accepted these proposals. While talks continue between the parties, a possible ceasefire is considered capable of changing the course of the war.
U.S. AND ISRAEL'S ATTACKS ON IRAN
While negotiations between Tehran and Washington are ongoing, Israel and the USA launched a military attack on Iran on February 28. Iran responded with attacks on targets it identified in several regional countries, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Bahrain, where U.S. bases are located, in addition to Israel. In the U.S.-Israeli attacks, many high-ranking officials, including the then Iranian leader Ali Khamenei, were killed.
