The mother, Serpil Altınok Dereci, who killed her two children by cutting their wrists in Ankara, was brought to the courthouse. In her first statement, she said that someone was following and threatening her. The children's father, Mehmet Dereci, stated, "I asked her to get treatment, but she refused. For the last two months, she kept saying, 'They are following me, they will kill us.' We were supposed to take her to the hospital the day before the incident, but we couldn't make it in time."
In the Ayvalı neighborhood of the Keçiören district, yesterday, Serpil Altınok Dereci, who is alleged to be a schizophrenia patient, cut the wrists of her children Afra Sümeyye Dereci, physically disabled Muhammet Ali Dereci, and A.B.D. (12) with a knife. While Afra Sümeyye and Muhammet Ali lost their lives, the injured A.B.D. was taken to the hospital by ambulance.
"SOMEONE WAS FOLLOWING ME" After the incident, Serpil Altınok Dereci, who was taken into custody, was referred to the courthouse after completing her procedures at the police station. In her first statement to the police, Serpil Altınok Dereci said that someone was following and threatening her. It was learned that A.B.D., who is receiving treatment in the hospital, has survived the life-threatening situation.
Mother Serpil Altınok Dereci "WE WERE GOING TO TAKE HER TO THE HOSPITAL A DAY AGO, BUT WE COULDN'T MAKE IT" Mehmet Dereci, the father who works as an accountant in a supermarket, experienced great sadness while waiting for the autopsy of his children in front of the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institution. Dereci stated that his wife refused treatment, saying, "No one can predict this, know it, or think about it. Like every human being, of course, she had nerves, she had attacks. There was a treatment process during her single life. After getting married, of course, there was no process. Occasionally, she would have attacks of shouting and screaming; I would try to calm her down by hugging her. Because I have three children. But of course, no one can think that it could be this severe. I still asked her to get treatment, but she did not accept. I thought about taking her by force. This time I couldn't do it because I thought it would 'backfire.' But I tried to treat her myself when she didn't accept. It wasn't something very serious at that time, but I wanted it not to progress, I wanted it not to get worse. But we didn't know. For the last two months, she was saying, 'They are following me, they will kill us.' I was telling her that such things do not exist, I said, 'Let's go to the police station.' I understood that we were going to take her to the hospital a day before the incident, but we couldn't make it. May God give us patience. My children are in heaven," he said.
"DON'T UPSET YOUR CHILDREN, SPEND TIME WITH THEM" Mehmet Dereci stated that he learned about the incident when his eldest daughter called him while she was injured, saying, "I was at work when my eldest daughter called; 'Dad, hurry!' I couldn't make it. I said, 'Daughter, open the door and ask for help from the neighbors.' I hung up, and immediately called the ambulance, the police, and our relatives; we couldn't make it. God tests us like this with fate. We cannot go against fate. There is nothing to be done; I have surrendered. What I want to say is this; don't upset your children, spend time with them, dedicate time to them, don't stay away from your children for work, go home early, and spend time with your family," he said.
"WE CAN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE" Mehmet Dereci explained that his eldest daughter's health condition is improving, saying, "We will transfer her to Istanbul on Thursday. Because we can't live here anymore, she can't live here either. We will overcome this together, shoulder to shoulder with my daughter," he stated.
