Yenimuhacirspor and Beğendikspor, competing in Edirne 2nd Amateur League Group B, faced off yesterday at Keşan Atatürk Stadium Mustafa Kaldı Field. In the 43rd minute of the goalless match, Beğendikspor player B.Y., who was on the bench, entered the field and punched referee Mert Kunt in the face. B.Y. was removed from the field by players and police. Referee Kunt suspended the match and filed a complaint, leading to B.Y.'s detention. After the match, Kunt went to Keşan State Hospital for an assault report. The decision regarding the match will be made by the Edirne Amateur Sports Clubs Federation. B.Y. was released after his police statement under prosecutor's orders.
CLUB TIES SEVERED
In a written statement from Beğendikspor Club, it was announced that B.Y.'s contract has been terminated and his ties with the club have been cut. The statement said, "We apologize to referee Mert Kunt and the entire referee community for this attack. We wish him well. We have fought to prevent such incidents and will continue to do so. The individual responsible for this incident no longer has any connection with our club. As Beğendikspor, we announce our deep sorrow over this incident with respect to the public."
