WHO IS FUGITIVE FETÖ MEMBER ZEKERİYA ÖZ?

Zekeriya Öz was born in 1968 in Bursa. He completed his education in his hometown until university and moved to Istanbul for his undergraduate studies. After graduating from high school, he started studying at Istanbul University and graduated from its Faculty of Law. After completing his undergraduate education in 1991, Öz practiced law registered with the Bursa Bar Association until 1997. In 1997, after passing the Judges and Prosecutors Exam, he removed his registration from the Bursa Bar Association and became a prosecutor.

In 1999, he reported for military service. After a short period of military service, he appeared before the health board due to alleged health issues and received a three-month leave for a change of environment. During this time, Öz was asked to lose weight, but since he did not lose enough weight, he received another three-month leave for a change of environment. Again, due to not losing enough weight, he was given a report stating 'Unfit for Military Service' due to obesity issues.

REQUESTED ASYLUM BY CROSSING TO GERMANY

In 2004, he was appointed to Ümraniye, Istanbul, and became the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor. He was one of the prosecutors leading the Ergenekon Investigation that began in 2007. On May 12, 2015, it was announced by the HSYK that Zekeriya Öz was dismissed from his profession. A warrant was issued for his arrest due to his connections with FETÖ members. It was determined that hours before the arrest warrant on 10/08/2015, Zekeriya Öz crossed the Sarp border gate to Georgia and then to Armenia, and later to Germany, where he applied for asylum.
