The German company Kiekert, a supplier of automotive locking systems, has been unable to overcome its financial difficulties. The company, which has been in operation since 1857 and employs 4,000 people, has filed for bankruptcy with the Wuppertal District Court.

According to news reports in the German press, Kiekert, which specializes in automotive locking systems, has filed for bankruptcy at the Wuppertal District Court.

PROVIDING EMPLOYMENT FOR 4,500 PEOPLE

Founded in 1857 by Arnold Kiekert near Düsseldorf, Kiekert employs 4,500 people across its 11 factories. The German supplier's locking systems are installed in one out of every three vehicles worldwide.

NUMBER OF BANKRUPTCIES IN GERMANY INCREASING

Meanwhile, according to data from the insurance company Atradius, the number of large company bankruptcies in Germany increased by 5% in the January-June period compared to the same period last year, reaching a record level of 207. Notably, automotive suppliers accounted for the largest share with 29 major bankruptcies among companies with annual revenues exceeding 10 million euros.

In addition, according to data from the Federal Statistical Office of Germany (Destatis), a total of 12,000 companies went bankrupt in the country during the January-June period. Bankruptcies saw a 12% increase compared to the same period last year.
