HE HELD THE CHAIR OF PHILOSOPHY AT FRANKFURT UNIVERSITY FOR MANY YEARS
Born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1929, Habermas became an associate professor at Marburg University in 1961 and taught philosophy in Heidelberg from 1961 to 1964. In 1964, he took over the chair of philosophy and sociology at Frankfurt University, and from 1971 to 1981, he served as the director of the Max Planck Institute, which researched the living conditions of the science-technical world in Starnberg. A representative of the Frankfurt School, Habermas returned to Frankfurt University in 1983 and resumed the chair of philosophy until his retirement in 1994 as a professor.
