Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias made statements targeting Turkey during his official visit to South Cyprus yesterday. GREEK MINISTER TARGETS TURKEYDendias used scandalous expressions during his speech, saying, "Fifty years have passed since the ethnic coup, which opened the doors to the infiltrator who was lying in wait in Cyprus on July 15, 1974. I offer my deepest respect and patriotic gratitude to the Cypriot (South) and Greek warriors of democracy and their unequal struggle against the invasion in 1974. They faced superior military forces under the weight of the crime coup. We remember them with respect and honor their contributions forever. And of course, we strongly condemn the shameful celebrations of the Turkish Cypriots and the illegal presence of the Turkish occupation army in Cyprus for half a century." IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO SCANDALOUS WORDS FROM THE MINISTRY OF NATIONAL DEFENSEThe Ministry of National Defense did not delay in responding to Greek Minister Dendias' ugly words. In the statement made by the Ministry of National Defense, it was strongly condemned, "We strongly condemn the baseless, false, and slanderous statement of Greek Defense Minister Dendias, which targets the Turkish Cypriots and the heroic Turkish army. The heroic Turkish army, in accordance with Turkey's right of guarantee arising from international agreements, took action and saved the Turkish Cypriot people, who were subjected to all kinds of persecution by the Greek side between 1963 and 1974, from a genocide attempt. Thanks to the courage and presence of the Turkish soldiers, there has been no bloodshed in Cyprus since 1974, the oppressive pressure of the military regime in Greece on the Greek Cypriot people has been eliminated, and the military regime in Greece has been overthrown, allowing a return to democracy. Mehmetçik (Turkish soldiers) will continue to be the guarantee of peace and tranquility in Cyprus, just as they were yesterday and today. We call on the Greek Defense Minister to abandon his efforts to undermine the joint approach aimed at advancing the relations between Turkey and Greece, which was put forward by the leaders of the two countries. Mr. Dendias' attempts to make a political career by sowing discord between the Turkish and Greek peoples will not yield results."
