Authorities reported that the attacker, who was neutralized by the armed intervention of security personnel at the synagogue, is 41-year-old Ayman Muhammed Gazali, who was born in Lebanon and later became a U.S. citizen.
HIS FAMILY LOST IN ISRAEL'S ATTACK
An unnamed U.S. official stated that four members of Gazali's family were killed in the airstrikes that Israel conducted in Lebanon last week. According to the official, Gazali's brothers, Qasim Gazali and Ibrahim Gazali, lost their lives in the attack that took place during iftar time on March 5. It was also reported that Ibrahim Gazali's children, Ali Gazali and Fatma Gazali, were killed in the same attack, and his wife was injured.
According to data from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Gazali obtained a visa by marrying a U.S. citizen in 2011 and settled in the U.S. that same year. It was noted that Gazali became a U.S. citizen in 2016.
An official from the synagogue stated to reporters that there were approximately 140 people in the synagogue during the incident, including 106 children. Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said that one of the security personnel was injured due to the vehicle that crashed into the synagogue and is receiving treatment in the hospital. The sheriff announced that there were no other victims or injured individuals in the attack.
