The interim decision in the Newborn Gang case has been announced. The court decided to continue the detention of the arrested defendants and ordered the arrest of 7 defendants who were being tried without detention. Additionally, it ruled that arrest warrants should be issued for 4 individuals who were not present in the courtroom and for whom arrest warrants had been issued. In the case, where the number of detained defendants has reached 29, the requests of the Ministry of Family and Social Services, the Ministry of Health, and the Social Security Institution to join the case were accepted. The hearing has been postponed to January 13, 2025.
The court panel announced its interim decision in the case where a total of 47 defendants, 22 of whom are detained, including the manager and members of the "Newborn Gang," who provided unfair profits by transferring babies to hospitals they had agreements with and caused their deaths through negligent behavior.
7 MORE PEOPLE ARRESTED
The court decided to arrest 7 of the 10 defendants whose arrest was requested. Additionally, it was ruled that arrest warrants should be issued for 4 individuals who were not present in the courtroom and against whom an arrest warrant had been issued.
FROM THE INDICTMENT
In the indictment, for defendants Fırat Sarı and İlker Gönen, a total of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months of imprisonment is requested for the crimes of "manslaughter by negligence" for the deaths of 10 babies, "qualified fraud," and "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," as well as 11 counts of "forgery in official documents."
For the defendant Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir, it is requested that he be sentenced to imprisonment ranging from 180 years to 589 years and 9 months for the crimes of "manslaughter by negligence," "unlawful acquisition of personal data," "fraud to the detriment of public institutions and organizations," "establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime," and "forgery in official documents." Similar prison sentences are also anticipated for 44 defendants, 8 of whom are women.
The indictment requests that security measures specific to legal entities be applied to the responsible hospitals and companies that obtained material benefits through the crime of "fraud," and that these entities be closed and their assets seized.
As part of the investigation, the licenses of 9 hospitals in Istanbul and 1 hospital in Tekirdağ Çorlu have been revoked, and the babies and patients receiving treatment in these hospitals were transferred to public hospitals by ambulances.
Additionally, those who threatened the prosecutor Y.E., who is conducting the investigation into the Newborn Gang, with death in his office, have also been arrested.
