While walking on the street in İzmir, İnanç Öktemay (44) and Özge Ceren Deniz (23), who were electrocuted, lost their lives. The interim decision was announced at the second hearing of the case. The presiding judge decided to continue the detention of 11 out of 13 defendants. The files of the detained defendants, Ömer Karabilgin, a branch manager at the İZSU Sewerage Department, and Barış Koç, the head of the Sewerage Department at İZSU, were separated and they were released due to their status as public officials.

INCIDENT AND INVESTIGATION PROCESS

On July 12, Özge Ceren Deniz (23), who stepped into a puddle while trying to cross the road during a downpour, and İnanç Öktemay (44), who tried to save her, lost their lives in the Alsancak neighborhood of İzmir's Konak district. The expert report indicated that the cables of Gdz Elektrik company were not buried at a sufficient depth near the puddle, and that İZSU had brought the cables closer to the surface during the construction of the grate, highlighting a lack of adequate coordination between the two institutions as a contributing factor to the incident.

Initially, 48 suspects were detained under a detention order, of which 13 were arrested, and the files of 6 were separated. The indictment seeks up to 22.5 years of imprisonment for 42 defendants on charges of "causing the death of multiple people through conscious negligence." The defenses of all defendants being tried at the İzmir 10th High Criminal Court were taken as of the second session.
