In Konya, it was reported that jeweler Muhammet Sami Ayaz (37), allegedly killed by transporter Turgay Barbaros (44) over a debt issue, was actually murdered during a robbery attempt. Footage captured the moment Barbaros, under the pretense of selling gold, attacked the jeweler by pulling a gun from his backpack. It was stated that Barbaros drew the weapon, demanded the shutters be lowered, and ordered the gold to be packed into the bag.
Muhammet Sami Ayaz, who worked as a jeweler in the Şems-i Tebrizi neighborhood of Karatay district at Şerafettin Cami Square, was wounded in the chest when Turgay Barbaros fired a gun at his workplace around 1:30 PM on July 10. Ayaz was taken to Konya Numune Hospital by ambulance called to the scene, but could not be saved despite all interventions by doctors. Barbaros, realizing he would be caught by police around 12:00 AM on Gençtürk Street in the Uzunharmanlar neighborhood of Meram district where his home is located, committed suicide with the same gun.
HE SHOPPED AT THE SAME JEWELER TWICE Following the incident, an investigation by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office revealed that Barbaros had visited the same jeweler twice on previous occasions and made purchases with a credit card. The workplace's audio security camera footage from the day of the incident was examined and conversations were decoded. It was stated that Ayaz, allegedly killed over a debt issue, lost his life during a robbery attempt according to camera footage analysis.
Mehmet Sami Ayaz NO CALL RECORDS Mustafa Derbentli, the family lawyer of the murdered Ayaz, stated that as part of the ongoing investigation, the mobile phone HTS records of Muhammet Sami Ayaz and Turgay Barbaros were examined and it was determined that they had never spoken to each other. Derbentli noted that Barbaros was found to have previously made purchases at Ayaz's workplace with a credit card, and their acquaintance was within the scope of a customer-merchant relationship.
"DEBT SITUATION IS NOT INVOLVED" Derbentli made the following statements:
"Although it has been immediately portrayed as a debt-related issue that day, in truth there is no debt matter here. The killer analyzed the surroundings beforehand, made the necessary reconnaissance. Then, on Friday, he timed it to when people were fewest and came before Friday prayers, then left. After Friday prayers, just as the shutter was being opened again, he returned and carried out his act. With the data we obtained from the prosecutor's file, we tried to prove that this is not a debt issue. We are proving this with official documents. Therefore, there is no debt relationship here; it is entirely a matter of robbery and theft. We wish to inform the public accordingly."
"WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS" Derbentli stated that on the day of the incident, Barbaros persistently claimed he had found gold from a treasure and wanted to sell it, saying, "He insists he found a treasure and wants to sell it. But our deceased brother repeatedly says, 'We have nothing to do with this. Go sell it elsewhere,' yet he couldn't get rid of him. Eventually, he says, 'At least let me show you.' He pulls out his gun from his backpack and directly aims at the child—our deceased brother's child—with intent to shoot. Then he aims the gun at our brother Sami. He demands that the bag be filled with money and gold—all these details exist in the conversation records. He wanted the money and gold to be put into the bag. During the ensuing scuffle, the shooting occurred. Then he fled. The issue we have been stating from the beginning is not a debt matter. It is entirely a robbery issue. Whoever portrayed it as a debt matter to the public and media that day, we want to expose that this information is not correct."
"THERE ARE 16 SECURITY CAMERAS IN THE WORKPLACE" Derbentli stated that there are 16 security cameras in the workplace and the murder was solved thanks to them, saying, "The jeweler has 16 cameras that record both video and audio. All these cameras were submitted to the prosecutor's office. The prosecutor's office redacted the audio in the documents. So we are presenting official documents. The result of these official documents shows that this was an incomplete robbery attempt and an incident that ended with our brother's death. Ultimately, the killer also committed suicide."
