Footage has emerged of the final moments of a mentally disabled man who was attacked by stray street dogs in Fatih and despite all the interventions made at the hospital where he was taken, he could not be saved. In the footage, the unfortunate man can be seen writhing helplessly on the ground.
The last moments of 40-year-old Ayhan Özçelik, who was brutally killed by stray dogs in the Fatih district of Istanbul last night, were shared.
Ayhan Özçelik (40), who has a mental disability and resides in Esenler, was severely injured when he was attacked by dogs while visiting his relatives in Silivrikapı neighborhood yesterday. Cleaning workers who came to the scene to collect garbage in the early morning hours noticed that the dogs were barking at a person lying on the ground and immediately reported the situation to the police and health teams. Despite the intervention by the health teams, Özçelik could not be saved.
INJURED IN THE THROAT AND FACE
Speaking to the press in front of the Forensic Medicine Institute, where the body was taken for examination, his brother Burhan Özçelik stated that his brother was attacked by 5-6 stray dogs. Özçelik stated that the dogs injured his brother in the throat and face, and claimed that the same dogs had previously attacked other relatives in the same area.
"IF THE CLEANERS HADN'T COME, HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TORN APART UNTIL MORNING"
Özçelik added: "The cleaners heard the noise when they passed by, and when the dogs attacked them too, they took sticks from the construction site and chased the dogs away. Then they called an ambulance. The cleaners knew us, so they took a photo of the injured person and sent it to our uncle's children. When they sent it to us, we realized that the injured person was my brother Ayhan. If the cleaners hadn't seen him, they might have torn my brother apart until morning. They took him to the hospital when the ambulance arrived. Later, he passed away due to blood loss."
