Çağla Şıkel, known for her statements against violence towards women, became the target of criticism when she announced that she would star alongside Ozan Güven, who received a 2 year and 3 month prison sentence, in the same theater play. Following the backlash, Güven withdrew from the project.
Actor Ozan Güven was sentenced to 2 years and 3 months in prison for allegedly abusing his ex-girlfriend Deniz Bulutsuz. While the trial process was closely monitored by the public, many artists and figures made statements regarding the issue. One of them was model and presenter Çağla Şıkel.
In a statement during the trial process, Şıkel took a clear stance, saying, "We say 'no' to all forms of violence against women, nature, children, and animals. We demand justice for this," showing her support for Bulutsuz. However, Şıkel's announcement that she would be working on the same project as Ozan Güven, who had been convicted in a violence case, was met with public backlash.
ŞIKEL'S "7 HUSBANDS OF HÜRMÜZ" STATEMENT SPARKED CONTROVERSY
The famous figure recently announced that she would share the lead role with Ozan Güven in the theater play "7 Husbands of Hürmüz." Expressing her excitement with the words, "I am experiencing a wonderful excitement. Rehearsals start next week," Şıkel faced backlash from social media users.
Many argued that it was contradictory for a person who takes a clear stance against violence to share the stage with someone who has been convicted of a violent crime.
OZAN GÜVEN WITHDREW FROM THE PROJECT
Following the escalation of the discussions, the producer TiyatroTR announced that Ozan Güven had withdrawn from the play. The press release stated, "Our artist Ozan Güven, who is part of the cast of the musical '7 Husbands of Hürmüz,' has requested to withdraw from the project to prevent the recent discussions from harming the project and team spirit. We thank Ozan Güven for his efforts and contributions to date."
