PENALTIES FOR FIRING INTO THE AIR AT WEDDINGS AND BLOCKING ROADS IN TRAFFIC ARE INCREASING
As similar incidents have increased recently, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made a statement on the matter. Minister Tunç stated that the penalties for these crimes would be increased in the 11th Judicial Package.
In his statement, Minister Tunç said: "The judicial investigation initiated by the Çaykara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the incident in which one person was killed and two others were injured during the bride extraction ceremony in the Çaykara district of Trabzon is being conducted meticulously.
Two suspects, who were detained along with their weapons under the investigation for the crimes of "intentional homicide and injury," have been arrested by the Magistrate's Court to which they were brought.
On the other hand, a suspect in the Eyüpsultan district of Istanbul, who blocked the way of a female driver with his truck, attacked the vehicle, and insulted her, has been arrested by the Magistrate's Court under the investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the crimes of "damaging property, hijacking or detaining land vehicles."
MINISTER TUNÇ: ACTIONS THAT THREATEN PUBLIC SAFETY WILL NEVER BE TOLERATED
Effective measures will be taken against any actions that disturb the peace of society and threaten safety, and such actions will never be allowed for the safety and peace of our citizens. The legal regulation proposals we prepared on this issue have been included in the 10th Judicial Package, and the Bill has been approved by our Parliamentary Group and accepted by the TBMM Justice Commission.
TO BE RE-EVALUATED IN THE 11TH JUDICIAL PACKAGE
These regulations will be re-evaluated in the 11th Judicial Package with the opening of the new legislative year due to the agenda of the TBMM General Assembly.
PENALTY FOR BLOCKING ROADS IN TRAFFIC WILL RISE TO 3 YEARS
Accordingly; The act of blocking roads in traffic is being regulated as an independent crime, and deterrent sanctions are being determined for these actions. Even if there is no threat of violence, blocking roads in traffic will be considered a crime. Those who commit this act will face imprisonment of 1 to 3 years. In cases where other crimes are committed alongside blocking roads in traffic, separate penalties will be imposed for both the road blocking crime and the other crimes committed. No one will be allowed to endanger the lives of others in traffic.
UP TO 5 YEARS OF IMPRISONMENT FOR FIRING INTO THE AIR AT WEDDINGS
Similarly; The penalty for firing into the air at collective events such as weddings, engagements, and military send-offs is also being increased. In the draft we prepared, the penalty for the crime of firing a weapon in a populated area is being increased from 6 months to 3 years of imprisonment to 1 to 5 years of imprisonment, and weapons that can fire sound and gas cartridges (blank-firing guns) are also included in the scope of this crime, with a separate penalty of 6 months to 3 years being determined for this act. If this crime is committed in places where people gather collectively, such as weddings, engagements, and military send-offs, the penalty will be increased by half.
It should be noted that; In the event of injury or death resulting from these acts, the penalties in our legislation for these crimes are being applied without exception. There will be no tolerance for these dangerous behaviors that put innocent lives at risk in crowded environments, and sanctions will be applied decisively."
