Serhan Kaynar, who attempted to kill his neighbor in Antalya by setting fire to their door and then setting up an electric device with nails, was found to be of sound mind. It was revealed that the defendant, who had previously not been sentenced due to a "bipolar" report, had planned the murder attempt. Kaynar defended himself by saying, "I wanted to scare them," and the prosecutor requested the heaviest penalty for him.
Serhan Kaynar (52), who is on trial for attempting to kill his neighbor Tezcan K. (39) with an electric device in Antalya, has been determined to be of sound mind.
SET HIS NEIGHBOR'S DOOR ON FIRE WITH THINNER
Living on the 4th floor of an apartment in Varlık Neighborhood, Serhan Kaynar allegedly set fire to the door of his upstairs neighbor Tezcan K., whom he had previously threatened by saying, "Look, I will throw a Molotov cocktail at your house, I will burn it," on October 7, 2024, by pouring thinner on it. After neighbors intervened, Serhan Kaynar fled to his apartment and was detained by the police. After his procedures, Kaynar was arrested at the courthouse he was referred to.
ATTEMPTED TO KILL WITH AN ELECTRIC DEVICE
Serhan Kaynar, who was released two months later, prepared an electric device with nails on a 2-meter-long board and began waiting for his neighbor Tezcan K. at home on December 27, 2024. At around 10:00 PM, Tezcan K., who arrived and tried to enter his home, was suddenly attacked by Serhan Kaynar, who opened the door. Tezcan K. was injured when the nailed part of the electric device made contact with his chest, causing him to be electrocuted. Neighbors who heard Tezcan K.'s screams rushed to help. Serhan Kaynar was detained by the police.
"I DECIDED TO KILL"
Serhan Kaynar, who was taken to the police station, confessed to his crime in his first statement. In his statement, Kaynar said, "I met him at the police station after I set his door on fire with thinner two months ago. I decided to kill him. Since I had no money, I set up a device with the wires I collected. I nailed a nail to the end of the board where I connected the wires. I thought he would die when the nails hit the woman. When I entered the building, I hit the board I prepared against the woman's chest," he said. Serhan Kaynar was arrested for 'attempted murder with premeditation.'
DID NOT RECEIVE A SENTENCE
Serhan Kaynar began to be tried in two separate courts as of last April for both starting a fire in the apartment and attempting to kill Tezcan K. In the case where he was tried for 'damaging property' for burning Tezcan K.'s door, Serhan Kaynar, who was reported to have bipolar disorder, was not sentenced for this reason.
The trial of the detained Serhan Kaynar for 'attempted murder against a woman' continued at the Antalya 4th High Criminal Court. It was stated that, based on the report requested from the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute regarding Kaynar, it was determined that he was of sound mind.
CHANGED HIS STORY IN COURT: I HAD NO INTENTION TO KILL
In the prosecutor's opinion, based on the new report, it was requested that the defendant be punished for 'attempted murder against a woman.' Defendant Serhan Kaynar opposed the opinion, saying, "I had no intention to kill, I wanted to scare him, I request my acquittal." The court panel decided to continue the defendant's detention and postponed the hearing.
"HE ACTED CRAZY"
Tezcan K., who wanted the defendant to be punished as severely as possible, stated after the hearing, "If this person were someone who was not in their right mind, they could not have prepared such a planned device and attempted to kill someone, so I want them to be tried with the heaviest penalty. What this person did is intentional and dangerous. Acting crazy to exhibit these behaviors is also a criminal element. I request that my suffering be taken into account, that the necessary legal procedures be carried out meticulously, and that what is necessary be done for public safety," he said.
