73-year-old Antônio Lopes Siqueira, who won 33 million dollars from Brazil's largest lottery Mega Sena, passed away during dental treatment he started with his winnings.
Father of four, Siqueira was a farmer engaged in livestock in Brazil's Mato Grosso region. He won the jackpot with a ticket he purchased for just 66 cents in November. However, the lucky man could only enjoy his winnings for a month.
Siqueira initially decided to get dental implants with his winnings. He experienced a sudden health issue during the procedure on Wednesday, December 4th. Health teams intervened for Siqueira, who suffered from high blood pressure and diabetes, but he could not be saved after more than half an hour of cardiac arrest when he was taken to the hospital.
The police, who launched an investigation into the incident, are examining the dentist and the clinic. Police chief Edison Pick stated, "If it is a natural death, the clinic cannot be held responsible. We need to wait for the autopsy results."
Sources close to the family indicated that Siqueira planned to buy a house with his winnings but noted that he "didn't even have time to enjoy the money." The owner of the store where he bought the lottery ticket said that Siqueira was a regular customer and often joked about winning the big prize.
