Düzce Mayor Faruk Özlü responded to the question, "Aren't salaries being paid?" by saying, "Salaries have been paid. Overtime payments have not been made. We will pay those. If our colleague does not like us, they can resign. We are not holding anyone against their will. If they leave, someone else will come."
The Mayor of Düzce, Faruk Özlü, was asked in a local television channel, "Düzce Municipality workers receive the lowest salaries compared to other districts. They have not received their full salaries. What do you have to say about this issue?"
"IF THEY DON'T LIKE IT, THEY CAN RESIGN"
Özlü responded to the question regarding the salary issues by stating, "So far, all salaries of Düzce Municipality employees have been paid. There is not a single person who has not received their salary from us. There are unpaid overtime payments. There are social balances. We will pay these. If they don't like us, they can resign. They can go to whichever municipality pays higher salaries. There is an economic crisis in the world. There is also an economic crisis in Turkey. We are trying to prioritize paying our employees' wages amidst these difficulties. However, if our colleague does not like it, they can resign. We are not holding anyone against their will. If one leaves, another will come. There are overtime payments that we have not paid. The extras that we have not paid."
THEY CELEBRATED A 71% RAISE WITH DRUMS AND ZURNAS
Before the local elections, in January 2024, Faruk Özlü announced that a 71% raise had been given to the employees in the municipal garden, stating, "You are all very valuable to us. Düzce Municipality employees receive their salaries on the 15th of every month. From now on, you will receive them on time as well." After this statement, a celebration with drums and zurnas was held. The discussions on that day became very controversial when the municipality was included in the list of those with tax debts.
