The MHP and the DEM Party celebrated the holiday together for the first time in history following Devlet Bahçeli's message of "Terror-Free Turkey," during which a notable "İmamoğlu" dialogue took place. In response to DEM Party member Türkdoğan's remarks about İmamoğlu and the release of students who were arrested during protests, MHP's Büyükataman replied, "We must not lose perspective."
After the message of "Terror-Free Turkey" from MHP General Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the effects of the new process were also seen in Ankara. For the first time in history, MHP and DEM Party delegations celebrated the holiday together.
The holiday visits, which took place through bilateral meetings at party headquarters, were marked by the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was sent to prison as part of a corruption investigation, and university students who were arrested during protests.
"HOLIDAY CELEBRATION IS ALSO A REUNION"
DEM Party Co-Chairman Öztürk Türkdoğan stated, "Holiday celebration is also a reunion. I would like to make a few wishes. First of all, I wish for our friends, citizens, and elected politicians who are deprived of their freedoms to regain their freedom as soon as possible." he said.
Türkdoğan used the following expressions; "Especially the deprivation of freedom of our student friends in this recent period is causing us to experience a somewhat bittersweet holiday. We hope this comes to an end. As all of us, we can build a new Turkey with honorable peace as a requirement of the Call for Peace and Democratic Society. We want this Turkey to also be a democratic Turkey. It will be a regime that respects the will of the people in democracy. We also want to see the days when respect is given to a will that reflects the will of the people."
RESPONSE FROM MHP TO İMAMOĞLU PROTESTS
Following the statements of DEM Party's Türkdoğan, Büyükataman also stated, "Of course, I participate in the good intentions you expressed. Turkey is a country governed by democracy. It is the most natural right of our people to express their democratic reactions within the framework of laws and constitutions. We must not lose the measure. We do not find it right for society to evolve in a way that could target public peace. As Turkey, we have all experienced painful experiences together. We must definitely be able to express our reactions, with responsible behavior," he said. Büyükataman noted, "I find the call made by your party significant and meaningful in response to the CHP's call for citizens to take to the streets. Everyone living in this country should be able to express their democratic reactions when necessary, within the framework of laws and constitutions."
"WE STAND BY THOSE WHO FIGHT FOR DEMOCRACY"
Türkdoğan also responded to Büyükataman, "Our party has a very serious leftist and socialist tradition. We are always with the democratic forces of Turkey. Of course, this country primarily needs peace. We are a responsible party in ensuring this peace. We are always by the side of our peoples and those who fight for democracy," he replied.
