HOW MUCH IS THE CURRENT MINIMUM WAGE AND WHO DOES IT AFFECT?The increase in the minimum wage has a positive impact on all wages, especially those in workplaces where collective labor agreements are applied. In addition to directly affecting employees living on this wage, the minimum wage is also relevant to a large part of society as it is accepted as a measure in many legal regulations. The minimum wage figure affects many items, including unemployment benefits, severance pay, GSS premiums, military and maternity debt payments, voluntary insurance premiums, internship wages, and the report fees of minimum wage earners. HOW IS THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINED?The minimum wage is determined by the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which consists of 15 members with five representatives from workers, employers, and the government, as required by law. The Commission is convened by the Minister of Labor and Social Security and meets four times in December based on customary practices to determine the new minimum wage. The commission, chaired by one of the members designated by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, convenes with the participation of at least 10 members and makes decisions by majority vote. In the event of a tie, the majority is considered to be on the side of the Commission chair. THIS YEAR WILL SEE A FIRSTThis year, a first will occur in the Minimum Wage Determination Commission, as a press member will also attend the meeting to follow the discussions. Additionally, it has been learned that a chef, a hairdresser, and a subcontractor worker will also be present at the meeting to represent the workers.
