The Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Murat Kurum, drew attention to the pollution in the İzmir Bay. The speech he made with a bottle of water he brought to the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) became a topic of discussion. Minister Kurum emphasized that a major environmental disaster is occurring in the İzmir Bay, stating that the amount of oxygen in the bottle is also zero. "AN ENVIRONMENTAL DISASTER IS HAPPENING"Minister Kurum, addressing the CHP members, used the following expressions: "Today, we brought a bottle of seawater from the İzmir Bay with us. We brought this water to better explain the sea pollution to the politicians who refrain from seeing the pollution in the İzmir Bay and who have not made a single statement in the face of this painful picture. It is time, even overdue, to see that a major environmental disaster is occurring in the İzmir Bay, that all living beings in the bay are struggling for life, and that thousands of fish are dying every hour. I ask in front of the nation, can fish live in a sea with this level of pollution? Can the people of İzmir live comfortably on the shores of a sea with this smell? The amount of ammonia from wastewater sources is 50 times higher than it should be. The amount of oxygen in this bottle is zero."
