The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change imposed a fine of 5.1 million lira on the Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ) due to non-compliance in waste management. The ministry also stated that ASKİ discharged wastewater that had not undergone advanced biological treatment into Lake Tuz.
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change imposed a total fine of 5 million 130 thousand 806 TL on the Ankara Water and Sewerage Administration (ASKİ), which is affiliated with the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, for discharging wastewater that has not been subjected to advanced biological treatment into Tuz Lake and for storing unlicensed solid waste.
5 MILLION 130 THOUSAND 806 LIRA FINE
In a statement made on the ministry's social media account, the following was stated:
It has been determined by our ministry's teams that the household waste generated in the Şereflikoçhisar district of Ankara is being stored at the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality's solid waste regular storage site, but there is no Environmental Permit and License Document for the site.
It has also been determined that the Advanced Biological Wastewater Treatment Plant, which was constructed by ASKİ for the treatment of wastewater, has not been put into operation due to electrical energy issues; and that untreated wastewater has been unlawfully discharged into Tuz Lake, which is within the boundaries of the Special Environmental Protection Area. A total administrative fine of 5 million 130 thousand 806 TL has been imposed on ASKİ regarding these two violations in accordance with the relevant Environmental Law. This is respectfully announced to the public.
