The coffeehouse located in the village of Yukarı İçme, connected to Elazığ center, draws attention with its extraordinary feature. Known for years as the "sleep-inducing coffeehouse," this establishment, built of stone and earth in 1948, remains cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Citizens visiting the coffeehouse, which provides tranquility with its nature and structure, especially the pool created by the water coming from the mountains, often fall asleep in their seats. The coffeehouse owner, Yasin Başpınar, has been taking photos of those who fall asleep in the coffeehouse for years and hanging them on the wall. The coffeehouse, which is also notable for its quiet environment, becomes a popular spot for visitors, especially in the summer months.
"I HAVE PROVEN IT BY PHOTOGRAPHING SLEEPERS"
Stating that he has been running the coffeehouse since 1977, the owner Yalçın Başpınar said, "I opened the coffeehouse here in 1977, and I am still continuing. There were good times here; it was a nice establishment with many visitors. Unfortunately, after the municipality left, our business deteriorated. Still, there are people coming here in the summer season. It is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. When citizens come in and sit down in hot weather, they inevitably feel sleepy. This has been its feature for years. I have proven it by photographing those who sleep," he said.
"WE HEAR THE SNORERS TOO"
Lütfü Yalçın, who came from a neighboring village, humorously described the coffeehouse's effect, saying, "For some reason, this coffeehouse has a feature. Those standing are half lying down, half wandering. Those who enter lie down completely, and those who go out are half awake and wandering. This is its feature. They go in there, rest, and immediately fall asleep. Sometimes we come to rest too. We also hear the snorers," he said.
"YOU FALL ASLEEP ALL OF A SUDDEN"
88-year-old Uncle Adil, who has been coming to the coffeehouse for years, stated, "I have been coming here for years. There are photos of those who fall asleep here. When you sit here, you suddenly fall asleep in a way known as 'patikleme'," he said.
