CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır announced his party's minimum wage expectations at a press conference held in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).

"A SPENDING OF 150 MILLION DOLLARS HAS BEEN MADE"

Reminding that the budgets of the ministries are being discussed in the Planning and Budget Commission, Başarır said, "Our friends are putting up a strong fight in the commission. We see the expenditures more clearly in the reports. I want to start with the President's obsession with planes. It is really hard to believe. While the situation of retirees, workers, and 86 million people is evident, very different budget items are emerging from the Palace. We do not know how many planes our President has. A spending item has emerged. According to the final account of 2023, we see where the money has been spent. The budget for the Palace's air vehicles in 2023, which was 1 billion, rises to 4.5 billion by the end of the year. In other words, a spending of 150 million dollars has been made. The gentleman has bought a new plane. I would like to ask him; you say 'I will fight against drugs' in 2025, and 9 billion is allocated. There is 8 billion for young people in the 2025 budget, but you have bought a plane for 4.5 billion. I understand the different collections of leaders, like prayer beads, antique cars. The gentleman is collecting planes. This is a mental illness. You cannot encounter such a thing anywhere in the world. If you have a bit of shame, come out and explain this. For a year, while the situation of retirees and those affected by EYT has been discussed in this Assembly, he says to sell his plane, reduce his protection. There cannot be such a spending item in a country governed by a bit of law. This man has really lost it. There cannot be such a spending item. Let him say where he spent this money. While the Minister of Labor Vedat Işıkhan is discussing how much the minimum wage will be, he says, 'We will announce a decision that will not let inflation eat it up again.' This means there is a minister who admits that workers have been crushed by inflation until now. The Minister of Justice makes absurd statements regarding the Narin murder. "WE SAY THE MINIMUM WAGE SHOULD BE 30 THOUSAND LIRA"

Stating his party's minimum wage demand, Başarır said that the minimum wage should be 30 thousand TL. Başarır said, "The agenda in Turkey should be the situation of retirees and workers, but we are discussing the irrational agenda created by the AKP. According to TÜİK, the annual inflation is 48.6%. The Central Bank aimed for 38, the government 41.5. This means the inflation target has not been met. When Mehmet Şimşek came to this country, inflation was around 38%, now it has risen to 75%. A poorly managed economy, a minister using irrational methods. This is the state of the country. There is no hope for retirees, no hope for the minimum wage, but the rate of increase is more or less clear. When you make an increase at this inflation rate, how will these people make ends meet? The minimum wage of 17 thousand lira has already fallen to around 10 thousand with this inflation. As the CHP group, we say the minimum wage should be at least 30 thousand lira. If you cannot do this, then just leave. If a government is doing this oppression to its retirees, workers, and people, if it cannot take care of them, if it is making people wait in line for stale bread and rotten fruits and vegetables, then that job is over.
