The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Transportation Coordination Center (UKOME) meeting decided to increase public transportation fares by 35%. Following the fare increase decision, the full ticket price for public transportation rose from 20 lira to 27 lira. With the increase, the starting and short distance fares for taxis also changed. After the new fare increase, the taxi meter starting fee became 42 lira, while the short distance fare became 135 lira. In minibuses, the short distance fare increased from 18 lira to 25 lira. IMM'S 46% FARE INCREASE REQUEST WAS REJECTEDThe Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Transportation Coordination Center met on January 6 under the chairmanship of IMM Deputy Secretary General Gürkan Akgün. In the meeting held at Çırpıcı Social Facilities with the agenda of increasing public transportation fares, IMM proposed a 46.09% increase in fares for public transportation vehicles, taxis, school, and staff shuttles. In the voting, IMM's proposal for a 46.09% increase in transportation fares was rejected by a majority vote.
