Caravans parked in public areas on Maltepe Beach, which were not removed despite being notified on July 5th, were towed to the Impound Parking Lot by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and Maltepe Municipality teams. A caravan owner who reacted to the decision said, "They are building a caravan park, but currently there are 400-500 people waiting in line. There is no designated spot. If we go to the lakeside, the gendarmerie comes; if we go to the forest, the forest ranger comes. If we come here, the municipal police comes. Where are we supposed to put these caravans?"
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) had previously requested the removal of caravans parked for a long time in public areas along the coastline. Following the written warning, Maltepe Municipality also issued notifications to vehicles parked in pockets along the coastline on Friday, July 5. Despite the warnings, the caravans that were not removed were towed to the Impound Parking Lots by IMM and Maltepe Municipality teams.
"THEY LEAVE AND COME ONCE A YEAR"
A person who parked their caravan on the coastline said, "There are people living in some of the caravans and some are empty. If there are 20 caravans, there is someone living in one of them. The rest are all invaders. In my eyes, they are invaders too. As a caravan owner, I do not recommend it. I am living in it. They leave and come once a year, once a month. I am taking a break now. I am fixing the shortcomings of my car. I am heading towards the Aegean. I am on the move, that's why I am here. Let those who are not here think about it. If there are friends who want to buy a caravan, if you are not staying in it, then the problem is there," he said.
"WHERE WILL WE PUT THESE CARAVANS"
Caravan owner Özgür Merhemci said, "They have already made us invaders, thanks to them. I also say, then make it paid and we will pay the fee. We suggest going to Orhangazi Park. They say it's 400 lira per day. We suggest getting a subscription, they say 'there is no space'. We are confused about what to do. As you can see, they tow people's property by breaking and damaging it. We will take them somewhere and see where we can put them. They are building a caravan park but currently there are 400-500 people waiting in line. They don't show any available spots. We go to the lakeside, the gendarmerie comes; we go to the forest, the forest ranger comes; we come here, the municipal police comes. Where will we put these?" he said.
