Due to the insufficient capacity of the Bakırköy Courthouse's 22nd Heavy Penal Court, the hearing is being held in a conference hall. Present at the hearing were 22 detained defendants, including Fırat Sarı and İlker Gönen, 14 non-detained defendants, and the lawyers of the parties. Some non-detained defendants participated in the hearing via the Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS). On the fifth day, the hearing began at 10:15 with the defense of ambulance driver Gıyasettin Mert Özdemir. After Özdemir, the defense of the organization's second-in-command, İlker Gönen, was heard.

Ilker Gönen is facing a total of 177 years and 6 months to 582 years and 9 months in prison for 10 counts of involuntary manslaughter, qualified fraud, establishing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, and 11 counts of forgery in official documents.

Defendant Gönen, who worked as a doctor at Medisense and was found to have committed the crime of causing the death of babies Kadan, Ayaz Karaduman, Öykü Helvacı, Havanur Karakoç, and Kerem Muhammed Tokluoğlu due to negligent behavior, made his defense. In his defense, Gönen stated, "Baby Karakoç had problems in his intestines. The baby came from Yalova. The baby's condition worsened. He underwent surgery in Bağcılar. Then he was transferred. The baby passed away 64 days later. The nurses called me for 64 days. We were giving the baby formula, it was coming out of his mouth. I am being accused of the baby dying because he could not be fed. After baby Karakoç passed away, the police came and seized all the files and took the baby to the Forensic Medicine Institution's morgue. An autopsy was performed on the baby. According to the report, the cause of death of this baby was not malnutrition, but a rupture of the intestines. With my presumption of innocence, while there is a confidentiality order on everything, how is it that these allegations are being published page by page in the news channels, but my lawyer cannot reach them? Is this what God allows? Families were incited. Who will stand by us?"

"MY LAWYER SAYS THEY DID EUTHANASIA WITHOUT BRINGING THE FILE TO ME"

In the continuation of his defense, Gönen stated, "For the second baby Tokluoğlu, I am being accused of performing euthanasia for the first time in the history of the Republic of Turkey by not allowing heart massage on this patient. The child is born without oxygen. The child is intervened for about 2 hours. They find words that will touch people's nerves, like 'passive euthanasia.' In the media, before my lawyer brings me the file, they say they have done euthanasia. People's emotions are being played with. Violence in healthcare is increasing. Because of me, 47 people are being accused of baby killing. Who will account for this?"

"I MAY HAVE A FAULT, BUT NO ONE CAN LABEL ME AS A BABY KILLER"

İlker Gönen stated, "Everyone can have a fault. I may have a fault, but no one can label me as a baby killer. When baby Kadan was born, they sent me a video. In the video they sent me, nothing was clear. Fırat Sarı called me the day after the baby passed away. He told me that there might be something related to the cause of the baby's death. I said that the baby had passed away, and it had been 1 day since then. I am being accused of murder for not seeing and reporting a non-existent lung explosion. Is it that easy to spread such slander, lies, and meddling? What is the reason for me being subjected to this slander? What is the purpose? What is the aim of giving so much to the media? Who do you want to put in a difficult situation? The people who wrote this expert opinion made allegations, and no one asked how this expert opinion was prepared. I am being accused of baby killing here. No one could stand by us. There was such pressure created in the media. So what did we do?"

Defendant Gönen stated, "In the baby Helvacı case, I am being accused of not allowing the baby to be treated with a killer's spirit and not administering adrenaline. For 2 months, I can neither stay in prison nor sleep anywhere else. Tapes are circulating page by page from morning till night. Who can restore our reputation? I stand before you accused of 5 deaths. The expert opinion put our guillotine, and the media delivered the kick. We could not explain a single word to anyone. We have already been labeled once."
