The parties' minimum wage proposals for 2025 are becoming clearer.

14.11.2024 12:11

Expectations regarding the minimum wage increase have started to emerge. The parties in the Parliament have announced their proposed increases one by one. The proposals from political parties for the minimum wage increase range from 28,000 lira to 35,000 lira. So, which political party is proposing what amount of increase? Here are the proposals for the minimum wage increase from CHP, İYİ Party, Yeniden Refah, Gelecek, and DEM Party.

As we approach the year 2025, discussions about the minimum wage have begun to accelerate. The Minimum Wage Determination Commission, which will convene in December, will determine the salary increase for millions of workers. Various scenarios regarding the minimum wage increase are being discussed. Inflation, living costs, and the balances in the labor market will be decisive in determining the minimum wage. It is expected that the minimum wage increase, which is significantly influenced by inflation, will be between 25% and 40%.

Political parties have also joined the discussions about the increase. Many parties have announced their proposals for the minimum wage increase. So, which party wants how much of an increase?

CHP: OUR DEMAND FOR MINIMUM WAGE IS 30, WE ARE NOT HERE BELOW

The main opposition party CHP wants the minimum wage to be 30,000 TL. CHP leader Özgür Özel stated, "The minimum wage will be increased on January 1. As CHP, we calculated as follows: Today, inflation is 50%, if we give an increase of 50%, the minimum wage will be 24,000 TL. We looked at where minimum wage earners spend this, and it corresponds to 76%. Our call to all unions is this; our demand for the minimum wage is 30, we are not here below."

GOOD PARTY: AT LEAST 28,000 TL

Good Party Chairman Müsavat Dervişoğlu announced the demands for the minimum wage increase at his party's group meeting yesterday. Stating that the minimum wage should be increased twice in 2025, Dervişoğlu said, "No matter which figure we discuss for the minimum wage, it will be low for the worker and high for the employer. As the Good Party, we share our clear expectation for the minimum wage with the public. They had revised the year-end CPI estimate for 2024 to 44%. The annual average CPI in 2024 will be at least 58%. Considering the situation of employers, the net minimum wage must be at least 28,000 TL in the first half of 2025, provided that the minimum wage is increased again in July. Anything below this is oppression to the Turkish nation," he expressed.

RENEWED WELFARE PARTY: SHOULD BE AT LEAST 35,000 TL

Fatih Erbakan, the Chairman of the Renewed Welfare Party, demands an increase of more than 100% for the minimum wage. Erbakan stated, "As Renewed Welfare, we express that an increase of 20-25% will again fall below the poverty line in February and March. We say that the minimum wage should at least reach the level of 35,000 TL."

FUTURE PARTY: 33,337 TL

Ahmet Davutoğlu, the leader of the Future Party, also announced the figure they demand for the minimum wage. Emphasizing that 17,002 TL has eroded to 11,250 TL, Davutoğlu stated that the amount to be given for the minimum wage should be at least 33,337 TL. Davutoğlu said, "If you give 33,337 TL, you will not have crushed the minimum wage earners against inflation."

DEM PARTY: SHOULD BE 35,000 TL

Tuncer Bakırhan, Co-Chair of the DEM Party, argued that the minimum wage should be at least 35,000 TL. Bakırhan stated, "Minimum wage earners should receive a wage that allows them to live humanely," and emphasized that the wage should be updated twice a year.
