In Çorum, İ.A. went missing along with 5 friends while entering a cave to search for treasure. Upon notification, a team including miners arrived at the area to search, but İ.A. could not be reached. Due to methane gas, the search efforts were halted. Legal proceedings have been initiated regarding the incident.
In the Kavacak village area, affiliated with the Çorum center, at around 04:00, S.Ş. reported to the gendarmerie station that a friend of theirs was trapped in a cave they had entered to search for treasure. Following the report, gendarmerie teams dispatched to the region identified the point where excavations had been carried out in the rocky area. Search efforts, initiated with the direction of AFAD teams to the region, were supported by AFAD teams from Kastamonu and Sivas, as well as experienced miners working at a mine in the İskilip district. Entering the cave with special equipment, the teams navigated narrow spaces and advanced to a depth of approximately 60 meters.
NO TRACE OF THE MISSING PERSON FOUND
After a while, gas detectors identified methane gas emissions at levels that could negatively impact human life. In operations conducted under safety measures, the teams carried out detailed searches at various locations but found no trace of I.A., who was claimed to be missing; however, a rechargeable drill, saw, backpack, and various excavation materials, believed to have been used for treasure hunting, were discovered in the cave.
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED AGAINST 5 INDIVIDUALS
Despite all efforts by the teams, no person was found in the cave, and it was learned that legal proceedings have been initiated against 5 individuals in connection with the incident on the grounds of illegal excavation.
