A 20-year-old TikTok phenomenon who creates clothing try-on videos won 20,000 euros in compensation after being treated like a thief by store employees.
Irish traveler Krystal Joyce took her distress to court after a female security guard opened the curtain of the changing room while she was half-dressed.
Joyce testified in court that she was held against her will in the changing area despite having done nothing wrong and was 'interrogated' in front of other customers. She claimed to be a victim of defamation because it was implied that she had 'committed a crime' in a way that others could see and hear.
The judge ruled that Joyce had been wronged and ordered the store managers and security company to pay her 20,000 euros in compensation.
Joyce, who has over 122,000 followers on TikTok, claimed she was unfairly portrayed as guilty while trying on clothes at Ireland's largest store located in the Blanchardstown shopping center in Dublin.
Hiring a legal team, Joyce took her case to the Dublin District Court and won a significant amount of compensation.
Her lawyer, Esther Earley, explained that Joyce often took photos in changing rooms while trying on women's clothing at different stores. She noted that Joyce later showcased these outfits to her TikTok followers and shared where they could be purchased.
Joyce was shocked when, while in the changing area of the 52,000 square meter Blanchardstown store, a security guard repeatedly said in a way that other customers could hear, "I'm calling the police."
