CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal encountered a surprising request during a visit to local tradespeople in Şanlıurfa. Tanal was taken aback by a citizen's statements criticizing the women's rights law and demanding its repeal.
The Republican People's Party delegation participated in the traditional Ahi prayer of the tradesmen in Şanlıurfa. CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal was also part of the delegation.
Emphasizing that Şanlıurfa has been the center of trade throughout history, Tanal stated, "The tradition of tradesmanship still continues in the ancient bazaars of Şanlıurfa. It is our duty to protect the spirit of solidarity among tradesmen and our cultural heritage. Hopefully, we can pass it on to future generations." After the prayer, the CHP delegation visited the tradesmen in the bazaar.
"I CANNOT HIT A WOMAN"
During the visit, the words of a Şanlıurfa citizen who stopped CHP Deputy Mahmut Tanal surprised those who heard them.
A citizen who approached Tanal said, "There is no such law even in Europe. I cannot hit a woman, I cannot say anything to my daughter." In response, Tanal asked, "Isn't it a violation of human rights? Can your aunt hit you? Then why can you hit your aunt?"
"STOP THIS LAW"
The citizen replied, "She is my family. When she is wrong, I can discipline her. I can discipline my daughter, my sister. My concern is to stop this law, cancel it, the women's rights law." In response, CHP's Tanal stated, "What law, brother? The woman you are talking about is not your life partner? She should have the same rights as you do. Disciplining is one thing, hitting and applying violence is another."
