Claims that a special consumption tax (ÖTV) incentive will be provided for scrap vehicles have stirred the market, leading many people who believe that the law proposal put forward by the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) will be enacted to rush to purchase these vehicles. Regarding the rapidly sold scrap vehicles, sources from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AK Party) stated, "There is speculation in the market. There are no plans to introduce an Incentive Law."
According to the news by Yücel Kayaoğlu from Türkiye Gazetesi, the claim that owners of vehicles from 2000 and older models will benefit from a one-time ÖTV discount when purchasing a new vehicle has been a topic of public discussion for a long time. Meanwhile, reports in some media outlets have increased the demand for vehicles over 25 years old, causing the prices of these vehicles to suddenly skyrocket. In fact, advertisements stating 'Eligible for scrap incentive' have started to appear on listing platforms. Additionally, opportunists looking to buy scrap vehicles have emerged, anticipating the release of the Incentive Law.
DREAMING OF BUYING A NEW CAR...
Under normal circumstances, citizens who own scrap vehicles by paying two to three times the market value dream of buying a new car at very reasonable prices after the law change, but the calculations at home did not match reality. AK Party sources provided bad news to those who acted early for the scrap incentive with their statements regarding the bill.
AK PARTY SOURCES: SPECULATION IS HAPPENING IN THE MARKET
Intense demand is coming from political parties in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for a one-time ÖTV incentive for scrap vehicles. However, AK Party sources stated that there is currently no such regulation on the agenda, saying, "Speculation is happening in the market because it is said that an incentive for scrap vehicles will be released. Those who are creating this speculation are the ones who have recently collected a large number of scrap vehicles, anticipating the release of the Incentive Law. We are also receiving many requests regarding the incentive for scrap vehicles. But right now, there is nothing like that. There is no consideration for the enactment of an Incentive Law."
MHP DEPUTY HAD SUBMITTED A BILL
MHP Kayseri Deputy İsmail Özdemir recently submitted a bill regarding this law. The proposal envisions that those who scrap their vehicles will be exempt from ÖTV for a one-time basis, provided that the new vehicles they purchase are produced in Turkey, in order to renew vehicles that are 25 years old and older and bring them back into the economy.
