Small islands formed on the Menekşe Beach in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, due to the retreat of seawater. Fishermen stated that they could not go out to sea with their boats because the water had become shallow. Aerial images showed that islands had formed along the coastline and that the seawater had retreated by several meters. Fishermen pointed out that the seawater had receded much more this year compared to previous years, expressing that they could not go fishing due to the shallow water. "WE CANNOT GO FISHING DUE TO THE RETREAT OF THE SEA"Fatih Akkor, a fisherman working in the Menekşe Stream, noted that there has been more retreat of seawater this year than ever before. Akkor stated, "The seawater has never receded this much in any year. This year, the retreat has reached 60-70 centimeters. This situation is also related to the rains. The lack of water coming from Küçükçekmece Lake and the dams has affected this retreat. Maybe in a few days, the water level will improve, but the retreat that is more than ever this year needs to be investigated. We feel it because we are engaged in fishing. I couldn't go fishing last night because of the retreat of the waters. My boat is stranded; I waited and waited but couldn't go out to sea. If I had gone out, I wouldn't have been able to get back in, so I had to go home. Now I am coming from my home at this hour. It even affects our livelihood," he said.
