A 9-year-old child with a mental disability receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Çam and Sakura City Hospital was sexually abused. The abuse came to light when the doctor examining the 9-year-old child noticed it. An investigation has been launched against 26 individuals, including cleaning staff, healthcare workers, doctors, and family members, who were identified as having entered and exited the intensive care room.
A 9-year-old child with mental and physical disabilities, who was in intensive care at the Çam and Sakura City Hospital in Istanbul, was sexually abused.
DOCTORS WHO PERFORMED THE EXAMINATION NOTICED THE ABUSE
The 9-year-old child who was abused was admitted to the surgical ward on March 19 with a diagnosis of pneumonia. The child, who did not respond to treatment, was connected to a ventilator on March 30. On April 7, signs of sexual abuse were detected by the doctor who examined the nine-year-old child. The doctors also reported this abuse.
INVESTIGATION OF 26 PEOPLE IN THE HOSPITAL
According to a report by Hazar Dost from Sözcü, after the incident, the hospital began reviewing the camera recordings. An investigation was launched against 26 people, including cleaning staff, healthcare workers, doctors, and family members, who were found to have entered and exited the intensive care unit, both criminally and administratively.
"HIGHLY LIKELY A CASE OF ABUSE OCCURRED IN OUR HOSPITAL"
Following the incident, senior executives of the hospital also made a statement, and it was reported that the situation was communicated to the Ministry of Health. In the statement, they said, "It is highly likely that a case of abuse occurred in our hospital. However, the results will emerge after the forensic report."
MINISTRY CONFIRMED THE ALLEGATIONS
On the other hand, the Ministry of Health also made a statement regarding the issue. The statement said, "It has become necessary to make a statement regarding the news titled 'sexual abuse in a state hospital' published in some media outlets. Immediate action was taken regarding the suspicious situation identified during the examination by our doctors, and an investigator has been appointed. Additionally, the suspicious situation was immediately shared with the judicial authorities and the Provincial Directorate of Family and Social Services. As the Ministry of Health, we are meticulously following the ongoing judicial and administrative processes related to the issue. Developments regarding the matter will be shared transparently with the public. We respectfully announce to the public."
