Demet Akarsu, who was killed by 31 stab wounds from her ex-husband Halil Tezkorkmaz a month ago in Izmir, had a sister who stated that the suspect had killed his own brother and sent her a photo of it. The sister recounted that Tezkorkmaz threatened her by saying, "Demet is dead, now it's your turn," which sent chills down the spine.

A chilling incident occurred on the morning of July 19 at around 07:30 in a house on 8953 Street in the Balatçık neighborhood of İzmir's Çiğli district. A dispute broke out between Demet Akarsu (45) and her ex-husband Halil Tezkorkmaz (46), whom she divorced in June. As the argument escalated, Tezkorkmaz stabbed Akarsu multiple times. Police and medical teams were dispatched to the scene following a report from neighbors.
MURDERED BY STABBING HIS EX-WIFE MULTIPLE TIMES
After the first intervention, Akarsu was taken to Bakırçay University Çiğli Training and Research Hospital. Despite being injured by 31 stab wounds, Akarsu could not be saved despite the interventions. Halil Tezkorkmaz was taken into custody at the scene with the murder weapon.
SUSPECT ARRESTED, CRIMINAL RECORD IS EXTENSIVE
After his procedures at the police station, Tezkorkmaz was brought to court, where he was arrested. It was also determined that Tezkorkmaz had numerous criminal records for offenses such as carrying an unlicensed firearm, intentional injury, and intentional murder.
"THE INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE THERE WAS A RESTRAINING ORDER"
Demet Akarsu's sister, Dilek Hınıslı (47), recounted the brutality that occurred. Hınıslı stated that her sister was assaulted three months after getting married, saying, "She had received a life-threatening blow to her face. There are hospital records and reports, but she did not file a complaint at that time because she was scared. My sister sought refuge with us during the last incident of violence. She said, 'I can't do it, I can't go home.' She told my mother that she wanted a divorce and asked us to help her. We did everything we could during the divorce process. My sister applied for a restraining order. In fact, we extended the duration of the order. This incident occurred while there was a restraining order in place. He did not leave my sister alone. She was constantly threatened, but we were not aware of most of these threats. She probably did not tell us everything to protect us," she said.
"HE SENT A PHOTO AFTER KILLING MY SISTER"
Hınıslı, who said that Halil Tezkorkmaz called her on the day of the incident, stated, "Tezkorkmaz called me, I put him on hold and blocked his number. Later, I called Demet, and Halil Tezkorkmaz answered. He said, 'Demet is dead, you are next.' Tezkorkmaz killed my sister and sent a photo. I saw the photo late at night. As soon as I saw it, we reported the situation to the police. They told us that my sister had been taken to the hospital. I received the tragic news at the hospital. No one deserves to be killed in such a brutal manner. Everything we said would never happen to us has happened. Our hearts are broken. Punishments should be deterrent; those who commit violence should remain in prison for life," she expressed.
"WE BELIEVE IT WAS PREMEDITATED, MOST OF THE INJURIES WERE LETHAL"
Barış Özbay, a volunteer lawyer from the Association for Children and Women First, stated that they would follow the legal process, saying, "This is a murder that occurred in a brutal and chilling manner. The late Demet Akarsu obtained a protection order on May 6, 2025, due to past tendencies of violence. There was a divorce process in June, and she finalized her divorce by the end of the month. However, despite the protection order, Tezkorkmaz continued to harass and threaten her, just as he had in the past. However, he claims that he committed the act of murder due to a jealousy issue, like other offenders. We believe there was a premeditated aspect to this act. Because Demet Akarsu was a woman who had been subjected to violence for a long time, and she was killed again despite the protection order. The process was not a sudden development. Given that she was stabbed 31 times, many of the targeted areas were lethal. We will do everything we can to ensure that the defendant is punished with the heaviest sentence," he stated.
