A fire that broke out during drilling work for the metro project in the Kartepe district of Kocaeli has been ongoing for about 5 days, despite the snowfall. It has been reported that efforts are underway to identify the type of gas that is burning, and samples are being analyzed.
On February 17, a fire broke out during drilling work conducted as part of the metro project at the intersection of Bedir Street and Ulus Avenue in Dumlupınar Neighborhood, Kartepe district, when they reached a depth of 47 meters. While teams took precautions in the area, the fire has been ongoing for about 5 days despite the snowfall.

On February 18, while firefighting teams extinguished the flames with a fire blanket related to the fire, which is believed to be caused by methane gas; expert teams from Turkey Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) arrived in the area to take samples.
SAMPLES UNDER EXAMINATION
After the sample collection and measurement processes were completed, firefighting teams reignited the fire in a controlled manner. While the samples taken to determine the type of gas burning were sent, it was learned that the examination is ongoing. To prevent any adverse situations in the area, the fire department, Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), police, and municipal police teams continue their watch on a 24/7 basis.
