The proposal for a 5,000 lira banknote has started to be discussed in economic circles. While it is claimed that there is a shortage of 200 lira notes in the market and that ATMs are being replenished three times a day, there have been calls for the government to issue a 5,000 lira banknote.

In recent years, due to high inflation and rising exorbitant prices, the 50 lira banknote has almost lost its value. The 10 TL and 20 TL banknotes are only used for change. Currently, the highest banknote, which is 200 TL, has become the most frequently used paper money by citizens. It has been claimed that there is a shortage of 200 TL banknotes in the market.

Recently, it has been noted that there is also a cash shortage in ATMs, with reports indicating that they are refilled three times a day. In recent economic discussions, suggestions for "new banknotes should be printed" have been circulating, and the rising calls for a "5 thousand TL banknote" have created a buzz. Former Deputy General Manager of Ziraat Bank, Prof. Dr. Şenol Babuşçu, stated that new banknotes must be issued.

"5 THOUSAND LIRA BANKNOTES SHOULD BE ISSUED"

Babuşçu, who said, "High banknotes do not increase inflation; high banknotes are issued because inflation has increased," suggested, "Three years ago, 500 and 1000 banknotes should have been issued, but today this is not sufficient. Currently, 5 thousand lira banknotes should be issued."

PROPOSAL FOR 2 THOUSAND TL BANKNOTE

Journalist Fatih Altaylı, who drew attention to the call for "5 thousand TL banknotes to be issued," also claimed that there is a crisis regarding 200 TL banknotes in the market. In addition to Babuşçu's proposal, Altaylı called on the government to print 2 thousand lira and 5 thousand lira banknotes.

As the calls for a 5 thousand TL banknote gain momentum, journalist Fatih Portakal also made notable statements during his broadcast on Sözcü TV.

FATIH PORTAKAL'S GRIEVANCE

Portakal, who said, "I think there should be a photo of President Erdoğan, Nureddin Nebati, Mehmet Şimşek, or Berat Albayrak on this money," criticized the current state of the economy.
