The statement made by Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who was electrocuted at home and is currently fighting for his life in intensive care, drew attention a month ago. Zeyrek said, "May God grant me a long life, but after I step down from this position, I will live in this city with my children and my family. If it is meant to be, I will also pass away in this city."
The situation of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek, who was seriously injured after being electrocuted at his home and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital, remains critical.
Zeyrek wanted to check the machine room for a malfunction in the pool in the garden of his house in Keçiliköy Neighborhood and was electrocuted at that moment. The 48-year-old Zeyrek was taken to Manisa Celal Bayar University Hafsa Sultan Hospital by the health teams who provided first aid at the scene. It was reported that Zeyrek's heart stopped for 70 minutes.
"CRITICAL CONDITION CONTINUES"
Provincial Health Director Mehmet Fatih Zeren stated in a press conference at the hospital last night that a call was received at around 11:30 PM at the 112 Command Control Center reporting that Zeyrek had been electrocuted.
Zeren reported that the teams reached the scene within 8 minutes after the notification, stating, "The patient's consciousness was observed to be absent. He was brought to our hospital by the 112 teams with heart massage. Our patient was taken to intensive care with the interventions made at our hospital. His necessary treatment is currently ongoing in intensive care. However, his critical condition continues."
Zeren expressed that Ferdi Zeyrek's heart had stopped when he was brought to the hospital, saying, "He arrived unconscious. He is currently being sedated."
HOW IS HIS HEALTH CONDITION?
New statements regarding Zeyrek's health condition have been released.
The chief physician of the hospital, Prof. Dr. İsmet Topçu, stated, "A decision was made to apply ECMO. The ECMO application started in the early morning. We received encouraging news from the ECMO application of our patient. We were able to create a good blood pressure. We established a dialysis system due to insufficient urine output.
The intensive care process is a very dynamic process. Everything can change at any moment. His general condition is critical. It would not be very accurate to say anything definite, but the developments are encouraging. All necessary procedures are being carried out."

The initial examination was also conducted in the machine room of the pool in the site where Ferdi Zeyrek lives. The results of the examination revealed the extent of the disaster. Mahir Ulutaş, the President of the Chamber of Electrical Engineers, stated the following in a statement he made on social media regarding the issue: "We wish Mayor Ferdi Zeyrek of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality a speedy recovery. A committee has been assigned for the technical preliminary investigation regarding the accident, which includes an experienced colleague who is a member of EMO, and a detailed report will be released in due time.
"RUST IN THE ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION, LEAK IN THE MOTOR"
According to initial findings, rust was observed in the electrical installation and protective equipment, and serious issues unsuitable for wet areas were seen in the design of the electrical room. It is understood that there is a leak in the motor due to high humidity and that the protective equipment is not functioning properly."

What matters is how a president's report card looks after these seats are gone. Like you, I love my city Manisa very much; we have no other place to go. May God grant us a long life, but after I step down from this seat, I will live in this city with my children and family. If it is destined, I will die in this city."
WHO IS FERDI ZEYREK?
Ferdi Zeyrek was born in 1977 in Manisa. His father is a barber from the Manisa Bazaar, and his mother is a housewife. He completed his primary, secondary, and high school education in Manisa. He graduated from the Architecture Department of the Faculty of Engineering/Architecture at Uludağ University. Ferdi Zeyrek married Nurcan Zeyrek in 2003. Zeyrek is the father of three daughters.
After completing his military service, he established his own company in his hometown of Manisa, doing architectural projects and interior design work. Ferdi Zeyrek has held various positions in the Uluparkıma Dokunma and Beyazfil Yıkılmasın platforms, as well as in non-governmental organizations and associations. He served as a manager and then as president of the Manisa Chamber of Architects for 7 years. He also served in the Manisa Academic Chambers Union. Additionally, he was elected to the Manisaspor Board of Directors between 2012-2014.
In the 2019 local elections, he became a candidate for the Mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality from the Republican People's Party. He served as a member of the Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Council, the Şehzadeler Municipality Council, and the Planning Commission. He also held the position of Chairman of the Planning Commission in the Republican People's Party Yunusemre District Organization. He served as the Provincial Chairman of the Republican People's Party. He became the Mayor of Manisa Metropolitan Municipality in the Local Government Elections held on March 31, 2024.
