Osman Kavala, a detainee from Gezi Park, made a statement regarding Ayşe Barım, who was arrested on charges of being one of the planners of the Gezi Park events. He said, "It is impossible not to understand from the phone traffic records in the possession of the prosecutor's office that our conversations with Barım began after the Gezi protests had ended."

Osman Kavala, who has been sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment in the Gezi Park case and has been detained in Silivri Prison for over 7 years, issued a statement regarding Ayşe Barım, the manager of celebrities who was detained on January 27 on charges of being one of the planners of the Gezi Park Events 12 years ago.

"OUR CONVERSATIONS WERE AFTER THE GEZI PROTESTS"

Kavala stated in his announcement: "The arrests we have been observing for a while are alarming. The actions taken against Ayşe Barım are a striking example of distorting the reality we experienced in the Gezi case and creating perception. In the statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on January 24, it is mentioned that one of the reasons for Barım's detention was the detection of her intense communication with me regarding the Gezi events. However, it is impossible not to understand from the phone traffic records in the prosecutor's possession that our conversations with Barım began after the Gezi protests ended. My phones were being tapped before, during, and after Gezi. The prosecutor was also aware that there were no conversations of the alleged kind.

The common feature seen in the arrests of mayors, politicians, and journalists is the lack of need to establish a legal relationship between the accusations and the actions of the accused, as well as to present credible evidence. This practice was perfected in the Gezi case and was used to acclimatize the public to this practice. I believe that the recent efforts to criminalize the Gezi protests also serve this purpose."
