In Hatay, which was devastated by the earthquake, a structure believed to be a 'Chapel' emerged approximately 5 meters underground after the rubble was cleared, sparking curiosity. The building, which impressed citizens, drew attention for maintaining its structural integrity.

After the debris of buildings in Hatay was removed, a new structure emerged. This unexpected finding has sparked widespread curiosity and extensive research has been initiated on the subject.

Throughout history, Hatay has hosted numerous civilizations and is known for its historical and cultural features. With the removal of debris in the Antakya district, which was devastated by the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, history continues to come to light. In the Ulucami neighborhood of Antakya, historical structures from ancient times were found under the debris in an area where two-story wooden houses were located. The structure, located about 5 meters underground and accessible by stairs, is believed to be a 'Chapel,' a place of worship for Christians from ancient times. It is expected that the studies to be conducted in the region will shed light on the past and contribute the historical structure to tourism.

"IT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS JUST BUILT"

History enthusiast Kemal Korkmaz pointed out the city's historical structure and its status as a city of civilizations, stating, "I saw this place on the internet. I researched and found out where it was. I came here as soon as I found it and saw the wonderful structure. The historical structure is a very beautiful place. This historical structure looks like it was just built. There were buildings here before the earthquake. The buildings collapsed in the earthquake. After the debris of the buildings was removed, this historical structure emerged underneath. There are historical structures and artifacts all over Hatay. These structures are waiting to be discovered. I hope they will be brought to tourism after being preserved. This historical structure looks very solid, as if it was just built. This structure is located 6 meters underground," he said.

"HOUSES BUILT ON TOP OF HOUSES"

Gül Çakan, who stated that there were two-story houses in the area before the earthquake, said, "There were people and houses living on top of this structure. This looks like a historical structure. There have been many earthquakes here before. As seen in this historical structure, houses have been built on top of houses. Old houses and stone structures are coming out from underneath here. This is not the only place; there are historical structures all over the city. There were mostly two-story houses here, and there were no large buildings. Especially, historical structures are only found in these areas. Large buildings do not emerge in places where ancient Antakya is located."
