A tenant, who the landlord wanted to evict, set the house on fire in the Izmit district of Kocaeli.
In an incident that occurred around 11:00 PM yesterday in the Bekirdere neighborhood, the tenant living in the house owned by İbrahim Baykal had not paid rent for a while, so the landlord wanted to evict him.
The tenant, who had not visited the house for a long time and had not taken his belongings, set the apartment on fire when he arrived in the evening.
Upon noticing the flames, a taxi driver reported the incident, and health, fire, and police teams were dispatched to the address. The fire department teams that arrived at the scene quickly brought the fire under control.
"HE COULDN'T BURN HIS OWN BELONGINGS, HE SET THE CURTAIN ON FIRE"
The landlord İbrahim Baykal, stating that his tenants had not come to the house for 3 months and had not paid rent, said, "They haven't come to the house for 3 months. They were supposed to take their belongings today but didn't, they were supposed to take them yesterday but didn't. They came this evening, set the house on fire, and ran away. I was lying down, I woke up to the sound of the car. I looked from the balcony, they were trying to burn their own belongings that they put outside. They couldn't burn that, they set the curtain on fire. By the time I got downstairs, they had escaped," he said.
An investigation has been launched regarding the incident.
