AYAŞ TOMATO AMONG WORLD GIANTS
The Ayaş tomato, one of the deep-rooted agricultural heritages of Anatolia, entered the list at the 8th position, joining the ranks of strong competitors worldwide. Known for its unique aroma and structure, the product was certified with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status by the European Union in recent years.
The Ayaş tomato stands out from other varieties with its large size, meaty and juicy texture, thin skin, and pale pink-red color. Its distinctive features include the prominent bumps on its outer surface and the white patch visible inside when cut. Thanks to its high acidity, the tomato offers a slightly salty and lemony taste, making it a popular choice on tables, especially during the summer months.
INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION WITH EU REGISTRATION
The Ayaş tomato was officially recognized by the European Union in 2023. The Head of the EU Delegation to Turkey, Ambassador Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut, stated that this registration would not only inspire producers in Ankara and its surroundings but also provide significant assurance for both producers and consumers. Meyer-Landrut expressed that the name of the product would be protected thanks to the protected designation of origin, producers would be supported, and the international recognition of the Ayaş tomato would increase.
