Fahad A., who served in the bloody intelligence apparatus of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, which was overthrown in Syria, was arrested in Germany. In a statement from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that Fahad A. was involved in at least 100 cases of torture and was held responsible for the deaths of at least 70 prisoners.

APPLIED PHYSICAL VIOLENCE AND TORTURE

In a statement from the Federal Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that Fahad A. was assigned to the El Hatip Prison, known as a secret torture center in Damascus, and that he faced charges of murder, torture, and deprivation of liberty. The statement indicated that Fahad A. contributed to the serious physical violence and torture of prisoners in at least 100 interrogations.

The statement emphasized that as a result of such mistreatment and horrific prison conditions, at least 70 prisoners lost their lives, stating: "At that time, the Syrian regime's President Bashar al-Assad ruthlessly began to suppress anti-government activities and violently crushed the opposition nationwide. The Syrian intelligence services played a key role in this process. In this context, real or alleged opposition members were arrested, detained, imprisoned, tortured, and even killed without any legal basis."

REMEMBERED THE KOBLENZ DECISION

Moreover, the case of Fahad A. recalled the case of Enver Raslan, who was previously convicted in Germany for a similar crime. In 2022, the Koblenz Regional Court sentenced Enver Raslan, a senior official of the El Hatip Prison, to life imprisonment for crimes against humanity.
