The White House stated that it will continue to work with the terrorist organization YPG/PKK under the pretext of fighting against ISIS.
The White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby evaluated the recent situation in Syria and Turkey's fight against YPG/PKK during a press briefing held via teleconference.
"TURKEY IS AN IMPORTANT NATO ALLY"
Kirby stated that Turkey has the right to "defend its citizens and territory against terrorist attacks," emphasizing that the NATO ally has "recently been subjected to such terrorist attacks." Referring to Turkey's legitimate concerns regarding the fight against terrorism, Kirby said, "We acknowledge that they (Turkey) have this right, and they are an important NATO ally." Kirby expressed that they are in close contact with Ankara regarding the recent situation in Syria and YPG/PKK.
USED ISIS AS AN EXCUSE FOR SUPPORTING YPG/PKK
On the other hand, Kirby asserted that the US will continue its support for the terrorist organization YPG/PKK, claiming that ISIS militants are involved. Kirby stated, "As the US, we have interests in the fight against ISIS, and this means partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces (YPG/PKK), and this partnership will continue."
Kirby noted that they are also concerned that the attention of YPG/PKK is being diverted from fighting ISIS due to the operations of Turkey and the Syrian National Army (SMO) against YPG/PKK, as well as the large number of ISIS members still imprisoned.
