It has been claimed that France and the United Kingdom are reconsidering the option of sending military troops to Ukraine, which is fighting against Russia. According to a report by Le Monde, based on sources close to the matter, following Donald Trump's re-election as President of the United States, France and the United Kingdom have put the option of forming a coalition force in Ukraine back on the table. The report recalls that French President Emmanuel Macron's statement in February that "sending troops to Ukraine is not out of the question" had drawn reactions from Western countries, especially Germany, at that time, and it was claimed that this option has not been completely shelved. NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUEIt was suggested that discussions among European countries regarding the sending of Western troops and special defense groups to Ukraine were reignited by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer's visit to France on November 11. According to a British military source, "Negotiations are ongoing between the UK and France to establish a core allied group focused on Ukraine and continental defense in Europe."
WHAT HAPPENED?In his statement in February, Macron said that there was no consensus among European countries on sending troops to Ukraine, which has been fighting against Russia for over two years, but this possibility should not be overlooked. French opposition figures accused Macron of "dragging the country into war" due to these statements, while some European countries reacted to Macron by arguing that the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine was out of the question.
