The person harassed women by asking, "Which sect is this? You're dressed all in black, aren't you sweating?" After a complaint was filed, the suspect was taken into custody and, upon being referred to court, was given house arrest and a travel ban abroad for the crime of "inciting public hatred or humiliation."
While shopping with her friend at a market in the Kaş district of Antalya, Zeynep Umurbek was verbally harassed by an individual due to her clothing and headscarf. After footage of the incident spread on social media and a complaint was filed, the suspect, who was taken into custody, was placed under house arrest and given a travel ban abroad by judicial authorities.
The incident occurred two days ago at a market in the Kaş district. Zeynep Umurbek, who was shopping with her friend among the aisles, became the target of verbal abuse from an individual named S.A. In the incident, which was also captured on mobile phone cameras, the man targeted the young women's clothing and said the following: "You've covered yourselves completely. What sect is this? Dressed all in black like this, aren't you sweating? Do you go into the sea dressed like this too?"
FILED A COMPLAINT
Following these words, a brief argument occurred between the parties inside the market. Having been subjected to verbal harassment, Zeynep Umurbek lost no time and went to the Kaş District Police Department to file a complaint against the individual.
DETENTION ORDER
Police teams, who examined the market's security cameras and mobile phone footage, identified the suspect as S.A. and took him into custody. After the completion of procedures at the police station, S.A. was referred to the courthouse and brought before the court following the prosecutor's interrogation.
HOUSE ARREST WAS IMPOSED
The Criminal Court of Peace decided to impose a judicial control measure on the suspect S.A. for the offense of "inciting the public to hatred and hostility or disparagement." The individual was sentenced to house arrest along with a travel ban abroad.
